We were recently treated to an overnight stay at Imire, the itinerary for which included their renowned game drive with lunch, which I was very excited about...and despite the rain which chased us from our lunch spot, it didn't disappoint!
Although I've previously done the game drive myself, I was looking forward to sharing the experience with my now 5 year-old. To me, the game drive is perfectly suited to children aged 4 and up (it's perhaps a little long for younger children, but it depends on how hyperactive your kids tend to be, I guess!) It was a joy to watch how my daughter delighted in seeing a variety of animals at a relatively close distance, including so many babies. She was even fortunate enough to feed an elephant, a black rhino and a baby nyala, which she especially loved!! The guides were attentive to all of us, including the children, and they made sure we all had a memorable time.
Although pleasant and comfortable, the configuration of our room at the lodge was probably better suited to a family with older children as the staircase leading up to the twin bedded room was steep with insufficient railing. Management has assured me,however, that this is indeed an area they will be addressing this year.
There is a jungle gym/wendy house with a couple of swings for the children, which is a welcome play facility at the lodge. It may be worth noting that they don't specifically cater for children, in terms of having a kids menu or separate meal time.
Nevertheless,we thoroughly enjoyed our short stay and hope to visit again one day.
